Nikon, one of the most popular camera manufacturer had announced its Mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera (MILC), the Nikon 1 series. Nikon will join the Mirrorless camera race with 2 new model, J1 and V1. With new camera, also come with new image sensor and lenses. Nikon new camera will equip with a a super high-speed AF CMOS image sensor and the new high-speed image-processing engine EXPEED 3.
Nikon make a lot of bold claim and a long list of new feature of its new camera. I will no go through the feature 1 by 1 as the feature is a bit exaggerated, good for marketing :D. I am more interested in Nikon new image sensor, the Nikon CX-format CMOS and image processor EXPEED 3.
The CX-format has a crop factor of 2.7 which I think is among the smallest of the MILC in the market. There are sample image flying around the internet now. A simple search at your favorites search engine should give you a long list of the sample image.
I never doubt about Nikon EXPEED image processor, Nikon had further fine tune its EXPEED series for MILC and came the EXPEED 3. Again, I would not judge the image quality and sample photo are available online.
Nikon 1 series is a late comer and the question, is 1 series a game changer? It does seem that Nikon is having a diffrent approach of its MILC compare with other competitor, a smaller image sensor. Does Nikon smaller sensor really make a different? How well Nikon MILC compete against the other MILC? all there question are too early too answer, but Nikon has a huge fans base and Nikon always make it fans happy with its product.
