The Phablet is Back: Why 2026 is the Year of the Giant Screen

Remember when holding a 5-inch phone made you look like you were talking to a slice of toast? The phablet—that glorious, unwieldy hybrid of phone and tablet—was once dismissed as a passing fad. But after years of foldable phones dominating the conversation, a new trend is emerging, phone makers are bringing back the giant slab phone. And leading the charge is the newly announced Nubia Neo 5 Max, a device that embraces the phablet spirit with a 7.5-inch screen that borders on tablet territory.

The Rise of the Phablet

The phablet concept isn't new. While early pioneers like the HTC Advantage (2007) and the doomed AT&T EO from 1993 laid the groundwork, it was the Dell Streak in 2010 that truly tried to bridge the gap between phone and tablet. But the Streak was ahead of its time—clunky and running outdated software, it failed to catch on.

Everything changed in 2011 when Samsung launched the original Galaxy Note. With its 5.3-inch screen and S-Pen stylus, it defined the phablet category and sold over a million units in its first two months. The Note proved that there was a real appetite for bigger screens. By 2014, phablets captured nearly 13% of global mobile device sales. The Apple iPhone 6 Plus (5.5-inch) was the tipping point—once Apple entered the race, large-screen phones became the new mainstream standard.

Then, foldables arrived. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series and its rivals offered the promise of a phone that unfolded into a tablet, seemingly making the phablet obsolete. But foldables come with high prices, durability concerns, and compromised aspect ratios that often leave black bars during video playback.

The Return of Phablet

Now, the pendulum is swinging back. Analysts and industry watchers are calling it: phablets are making a comeback. It's not just about nostalgia; it's about utility.

For one, a wide phablet screen is simply better for getting things done. Whether it's editing images, working on documents, or even just typing with two thumbs, that extra horizontal space makes a tangible difference.

Furthermore, there's a growing realization that while foldables are cool, a large, reliable slab phone offers a superior media experience without the crease or the cost. Watching a movie or playing a game on a 7-inch-plus screen is immersive without being a compromise. This trend is so significant that major players like Huawei and Xiaomi's Redmi are reportedly testing new 7-inch phablets. The "phablet" category is being resurrected not as a niche, but as a viable, powerful alternative.
Enter the nubia Neo 5 Max: A True PadPhone.

And that's where the nubia Neo 5 Max enters the scene. Announced in mid-2026, it doesn't just follow the trend—it redefines it. nubia calls it a "PadPhone", a device that combines the expansive viewing experience of a tablet with the portability and control of a gaming console.

The star of the show is its 7.5-inch 1.5K LCD display. To put that in perspective, it offers 27% more visible area than a standard 6.8-inch flagship, making it one of the largest smartphones introduced this year. With an 18.7:9 aspect ratio, it provides a wider field of view that can enlarge enemy outlines by 40% in FPS games. It's a screen that demands attention, turning your pocket into a portable mini-TV.

But size isn't everything. The Neo 5 Max is built for performance. Under the hood, it packs a MediaTek Dimensity 7100 chipset, ensuring robust performance and steady frame rate. More importantly, it's a marathon runner, equipped with a massive 7,100mAh super dual-cell battery. This isn't a phone you need to charge every few hours; it's built for long gaming sessions, flights, and binge-watching.

The experience is further enhanced by Neo Triggers 5.0—capacitive shoulder buttons that offer console-level control with a 4.7ms response latency. Add in a 30,000mm²+ cooling system to keep things chill during intense sessions, Dolby Atmos speakers, and AI-powered gaming assistance via AI Copilot Demi 2.0, and you have a device that's tailored for the modern gamer and media consumer.

The Future is "Big" again

The nubia Neo 5 Max marks a clear signal, the future of mobile isn't just about folding screens; it's about embracing the large format for those who want the best experience without compromise. The phablet revival is here, and it's bigger, bolder, and more capable than ever. As the line between phone and tablet continues to blur, devices like the Neo 5 Max prove that sometimes, bigger truly is better.

Sabuti, A Burmese Traditional Food

I came across this stall at the restaurant opposite Pudu Plaza. A typical Chinese restourant selling typical Malaysian food, watan mee, porridge, pan mee, and etc. Then something caught me, some Burmese selling something call Sabuti. From far it look like porridge. When I get a closer look at it, it is soup, like the Indian ox tail or chicken soup. My curiosity tell me to try it. I sit down and order 1 portion. They serve with salt and MSG. An extra RM 1 you will get the fried beef with chili and onion, I warm you...is super hot..at least for my standard. After my first sip and I know why they serve the salt and MSG. The soup is plain, pretty plain in taste. One might enjoy it but not me. I prefer my soup to be a bit "spice". I added the salt and MSG and the soup taste better. Please note this is not a healthy way of eating soup. Don't try it too often :D The ingredient inside the soup, beef and corn. Simple but filling and I can understand why the soup i...

They suddenly felt that they don't belong to the zoo, they really belong to the their new family at the circus. The circus is the place where...
