Movie - Rise of the Guardians (2012)

Rise of the Guardians is a visually stunning and heartwarming animated fantasy film that brings beloved childhood legends to life in an exciting, action-packed adventure. Directed by Peter Ramsey and based on William Joyce's The Guardians of Childhood series, the movie reimagines iconic figures like Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and the Sandman as a team of superheroic protectors—known as the Guardians—who defend the innocence and wonder of children.

Plot & Themes

The story follows Jack Frost (voiced by Chris Pine), a mischievous and lonely winter spirit who is unexpectedly chosen to join the Guardians in their battle against the Boogeyman, Pitch Black (Jude Law). Pitch seeks to plunge the world into darkness by extinguishing children's belief in the Guardians. Jack, struggling with his own forgotten past and purpose, must learn to embrace his role as a Guardian and inspire hope in kids worldwide.
The film beautifully explores themes of identity, belief, and teamwork, delivering an emotional yet fun narrative that resonates with both children and adults.

Animation & Visuals

DreamWorks Animation delivers breathtaking visuals, with each Guardian's world—from Santa’s icy North Pole workshop to the Tooth Fairy’s vibrant palace—bursting with creativity. The character designs are inventive (Santa is a tattooed, sword-wielding warrior; the Easter Bunny is a tough, boomerang-throwing Aussie), and the action sequences are dynamic and thrilling.

Voice Acting & Music

The voice cast is stellar: Chris Pine brings charm and depth to Jack Frost, while Alec Baldwin (Santa), Hugh Jackman (Easter Bunny), Isla Fisher (Tooth Fairy), and Jude Law (Pitch) each infuse their characters with personality and humor. The score by Alexandre Desplat enhances the film’s magical and emotional moments.

Final Verdict

Rise of the Guardians is an underrated gem that combines adventure, humor, and heartfelt storytelling. While it didn’t get the attention it deserved upon release, it has since gained a cult following for its imaginative world-building and touching message about the power of belief.

One More Thing

The most interesting part of the movie is Santa Claus—who is far from the typical jolly old elf. He came with a thick Russian accent and a warrior’s spirit, this version of Santa (or North, as he’s called) is a tattooed, sword-wielding, yeti-commanding powerhouse who runs a high-tech workshop guarded by mystical warrior elves.
This bold take on Santa is just one example of how Rise of the Guardians breathes new life into familiar characters. The film’s creativity shines brightest in these reinventions, proving that even the most classic figures can feel exciting and original.

Sabuti, A Burmese Traditional Food

I came across this stall at the restaurant opposite Pudu Plaza. A typical Chinese restourant selling typical Malaysian food, watan mee, porridge, pan mee, and etc. Then something caught me, some Burmese selling something call Sabuti. From far it look like porridge. When I get a closer look at it, it is soup, like the Indian ox tail or chicken soup. My curiosity tell me to try it. I sit down and order 1 portion. They serve with salt and MSG. An extra RM 1 you will get the fried beef with chili and onion, I warm you...is super hot..at least for my standard. After my first sip and I know why they serve the salt and MSG. The soup is plain, pretty plain in taste. One might enjoy it but not me. I prefer my soup to be a bit "spice". I added the salt and MSG and the soup taste better. Please note this is not a healthy way of eating soup. Don't try it too often :D The ingredient inside the soup, beef and corn. Simple but filling and I can understand why the soup i...

They meet new friends at the circus and enemy, the Paris animal control, and has been travel across France, Rome, London and and return back to the big apple, New York City, Central Park Zoo. Again, the movie bring us a lot of laughter and joy. Marty will always so some silly thing, Alex will always save the day will some silly move, and Gloria and Melman will always silly and in love. I love this movie because beside the fun and joy the movie bring, the movie will always carry a positive message of true friendship and family value. I think I like this sequel the most and really touch by the scene when the they return to Central Park Zoo, a place where they called home and realizing they don't fell they are at "home". They suddenly felt that they don't belong to the zoo, they really belong to the their new family at the circus. The circus is the place where...
